Reflections on Antibes

Well our time at Antibes has come to an end and we have been thinking about what we have learnt and observed here.

Young people including teenagers give up here seat on the buses. They will ask you if you want to sit down which is really nice.

Weekends brings out everyone when the weather is fine. Families come out with their dogs to enjoy the day, teenager couples huddle together and kiss, elderly people walk along the promenade and parents enjoy the beach with their children. It's really nice to see everyone enjoying the day together.

People with mental health issues are encouraged to live in the community. A lady below us has an imaginary friend that she yells at if she thinks she has been bad. The owners of the apartment are trying to get her removed but the authorities don't want to do it.

People are very friendly and everyone says bonjour (hello) when they meet you even at the check out at the supermarket. When we were walking around the beach promenade the other day and taking a picture of Cliff a young French girl asked if we wanted a picture together so we said yes.

When walking around the shop areas people don't move out of the way, usually you have to move. It's like they think they always have right of way.

The food is great here and we have really enjoyed the freshness of the vegetables. We brought really tasty salmon at the supermarket which was a surprise.
The markets are fantastic with cheese, meat, fish, vegetables, sweets, olives all available. Most speak some English so it's easy to purchase items.

There is an abundance of art everywhere you look. Even the shops are done out with an artistic flare. There are some shops that people stop and take photos including us as the display is so good.

The area feels very safe although there are beggars that sit outside some of the more expensive shops and a lady we see a lot with a barrow holding a dog that she visits the garbage bins. It's very quite but we are in spring and when summers comes it will be very busy with loads of tourists coming and people who have holiday homes here.
See some last minute photos before we left showing our apartment and other places close to apartment.

We have really enjoyed our time here but we now move onto Lake Como and Menaggio. We will be taking a ferry to Menaggio so that will be cool.
