Venice from 16 March

Well we have been in Venice for 6 days now and although it took us a while to adjust to the crowds and busyness that makes Venice vibrant, we are now really loving it and learning heaps about its past. Shopping is great and I have seen lots of things to buy but not sure how I would get them all home. Postage is very expensive as I found out in France but we will be buying some Murano glass before we leave. I decided to update my coat so I have brought a new one today which is shorter and a dark grey. It looks really smart and I will be wearing it to go to a Vivaldi orchestral concert tonight playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons. I will give my old coat to the church to give away.

The weather has been great with many sunny days which has been great for photos. We visited the fruit, veg and seafood market which I think is on every day. Every day we walk till ours legs hurt and then we sit down for a cappuccino in the many small bars here. It great as the bars sell all of my favourite food, coffee, sweet and savoury snacks and wine. Need I say more.

We brought a museum pass and we have visited two so far, Ducale Palace and Correr Museum. Both were great with loads of pictures, statues, decorated rooms etc. The palace took about 3 hrs to go through and I scanned some of the rooms at the end as they were starting to close up for the day. We did a walking tour which gave us lots of info about Venice and the architecture. The price included a visit to a Murano glass factory so we took a water taxis to a very expensive Murano shop where we saw the master at work then the sales master worked on me to buy something. He was nice and I felt sorry for him that he didn't get a sale. We have our eye on a lovely bowl in a shop near the Rialto bridge to buy at a fraction of the price.

We have been eating lots of pizza and you can buy it by the slice for E2.50 which is a cheap lunch. I keep forgetting to take photos of my food for Michelle but remembered after I had eaten nearly half of my pizza (see photo). We brought some salmon and fish from market and cook back at apartment, it was really nice. The apartment has a very small kitchen, not as good as the one in Antibes but I make do. The owners live next door and are a lovely older couple. Laura has lived in Venice all her life and speak some English.
I will send another Venice update in a few days.

  1. If you get a chance don't miss Peggy Guggenheim House/Museum on the other side of the Grand Canal - enjoying the pix.
