Vence 27 Feb

We caught the local bus up to a town in the hills called Vence (pronounced Vonce). We strolled around this picturesque village which sits on the top of a hill. Medieval streets wind their way around the town. This was where Matisse lived during the 2nd world war. He designed the chapel and the stain glass window which was very beautiful. We came across an old cathedral in one of the squares that dates back to 4th century. Vence is a walled city which has gates to enter, one was widened to allow the bishop to drive his carriage through. We had a very nice meal in one of the restaurant. We sat next to an English couple and it was nice to talk freely without worrying about language barriers.
